The intrinsic safety is an explosion protection method based on the criterion of "Prevention". Use of this method prevents ignition of flammable half thanks to instrumentation located in the hazardous area or are incapable of generating sufficient energy store, while limited, by the use of devices known as intrinsic safety barriers, the energy that is supplied to the instrument from the secure area.
This system provides and equips Petrolcontrol at facilities necessary intrinsic safety barrier approved for that purpose. The use of intrinsic safety remains limited to safe levels of current and voltage (power) in the hazardous area, preventing the occurrence of sparks capable of generating an explosion. Consequently, there is also a limitation of the heat energy dissipated by the instrument, thereby eliminating the possibility of an explosion to occur by high temperature.
Intrinsic safety is a protection method widely accepted in the market and industry, with nearly 40 years of development. Their use results in considerable advantages from the point of view of safety, maintenance and operation, while also entails considerable savings from the point of view of acquisition and implementation.
